We all have heroes. Some of you may admire characters in movies, the media, or books, politicians, or historical figures.
I have my list of those as well, but I’ve always been fascinated by what I call “my local heroes,” those individuals who I meet, work with, and learn about who are not public figures but who embody resilience and, as a result, have extraordinary accomplishments.
Our speaker on 11-1-24, Betsy, Gard, PhD, is one such person. Betsy is one of my heroes!
A fellow psychologist, Adjunct Professor at the Emory University Department of Psychiatry, and international disaster responder professor, she recently returned from working with teachers from Kyiv, Ukraine, who had to travel to Poland to take her five-day course on self-care.
Her work here is exceptional; her vision of what was needed has implications for all of us.
Here is a preview of her talk:

Motivation to make change

The answer will be elaborated upon in her upcoming post on volunteerism in Psychology Today’s Psychological Trauma, Coping, and Resilience.
We look forward to seeing you this Friday, November 1, 10-11 EDT…
