Preventing Drug Abuse in Your Children By Having 60 One-Minute Conversations
Rather Than One 100-Minute Lecture
This is one of the suggestions to empower parents and providers that Dr. Weiner will share in his upcoming free webinar. If you have a child or work with kids, you need to know what they’re saying and how to talk to them about it.

Here, you’ll learn that Opioid overdoses, which dramatically spiked during the COVID years, have tragically continued to rise. This has become our country’s reality in our post-COVID world, and important facts such as:
Xylazine is not a new rock they’re studying in earth science
Or a new electronic instrument. It is a powerful animal tranquilizer being added to street drugs. It prolongs the high by providing another layer of sedation to many of the street drugs that are all too common.
… But a major health threat.
Xylazine poses a significant health problem as it interferes with the effectiveness of Narcan. This increasingly available nasal spray can rapidly reverse the effects of a life-threatening opioid emergency. This is one reason why we’re seeing increasing deaths due to overdoses.
The upside of being curious and risking speaking directly: resilience
Take a deep breath and say to yourself: I will get better at having these short conversations. Doing this will build your confidence and skill. So, as challenging as this seems, you’ll probably feel better by doing it.
Learning to talk to teens takes persistence
And you’ll have lots of opportunities for this one-minute practice.
You can begin by:
· Listening to what your kids may be saying on their phone, to a friend,
· Hearing what’s mentioned on a show,
· Asking a question,
· And knowing some information.
